Nora Gilchrist is a Massachusetts-raised, Pittsburgh-based artist and educator. She is interested in history and material culture, and being attuned to how our past and the things we create, consume, and value (or devalue) inform our ways of living. She is passionate about encouraging all people to utilize their inherent gifts of creativity, which she believes we are all endowed with. She is grateful to be able to do work she cares deeply about via her position as an educator at Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse. She dabbles with a variety of reclaimed materials, and has a penchant for fabric and wood in particular. She loves creating portraits, especially ones depicting feminine beauty and power. She is especially fascinated by women who might be regarded as "unsung heroes".
